Important Information for users of NXP LPCXpresso

This site is for users of Code Red branded products.

NXP LPCXpresso users should visit the LPCXpresso FAQ's for up-to-date information relevant to that product.

Updating to a new minor release of a Red Suite family product

This page is about keeping your IDE up to date with the latest minor releases (for example, going from Red Suite 5.x to Red Suite 5.y). LPCXpresso users should also follow the instructions here when upgrading to a newer major version.

To learn about upgrading to a new major version of Red Suite or Red Suite NXP Edition (for example, moving from Red Suite 3 or 4 to Red Suite 5), see the FAQ Upgrading to a newer product in the Red Suite family.

Because the Red Suite product family does not currently use the Eclipse software update mechanism, you need to download and run the installer for the new version.

You can choose to install over the top of an existing installation, but generally we would recommend that you install into a new directory. Note in particular that if you install over the top of any existing installation, any plugins that you had previously installed will be lost. If you install the new version into a new (different) directory, then you can run the old version and the new one completely independently (and even have both running at the same time).

For information on the current versions of the tools, including download details, please see Downloads and Versions.

Migrating projects

The FAQ Migrating existing projects to a new version of the Code Red IDE contains a number of hints on migrating existing projects from one version of Red Suite to another. Although primarily aimed at users upgrading to a major new release (e.g. Red Suite 3 to 4 / Red Suite 4 to 5) it is generally good practice to take similar precautions when moving to a new minor release.
